Kristen Pollard is the Y’s Chief Programs Operations Officer. Her sunny nature and positive outlook on life are summed up by her favorite quote: “Each new day is a blessing. Let go of all worries and be grateful for all of the positive in your life.”
She oversees all the Y’s programs, from preschool and school-age care to health and wellness. She has more than 21 years of experience working in the Y movement in a variety of positions, from childcare, youth development and aquatics to camps, health and wellness programs and executive leadership.
Kristen loves working at the Bangor Region YMCA because, “Every day brings something new and it allows me to have an impact in the community,” she says. “As a child I benefited greatly from having others give me opportunities my parents were not able to afford and it is important for me to give back to others.” Prior to the Y, she was a stay at home mom to her two daughters.
Growing up in Connecticut, Kristen says her 6th grade teacher impacted her the most. “She got me into running and sports and gave me opportunities to expand in those areas. As a result I was able to get college scholarships for athletics,” she says.
Respect is her favorite Y core value. “I always try to treat my staff and members with respect. I like to treat others how they would want to be treated,” she says.
When not working, Kristen enjoys watching women’s college basketball, football, running, hiking and just being outside. And one thing people might not know about her? “I am very crafty and enjoy making things to decorate my house or give to others.”
