Alyssa, affectionately known as “Lyss,” serves as the Family Programming Coordinator at the Bangor Region YMCA. As a dynamic health and wellness leader, she brings energy, creativity, and compassion to her work, developing engaging physical and social activities for members of all ages, from youth to seniors. Her role includes leading new member orientations, personal training sessions, and group exercise classes that support the YMCA’s mission of healthy living and community connection.
Alyssa holds several certifications including:
- Mossa Group Power Instructor
- Mossa Group Ride Instructor
- ACE Group Fitness Instructor
- CDA (Child Development Associate) Credential
- LIVESTRONG Instructor Certification
With over 16 years of experience in education and wellness, Alyssa’s journey has been one of growth and service. Before joining the Y, she worked as a teacher and served as a correctional officer at a Level 4 male prison in California. She is the eldest of 11 siblings and was raised in sunny California, where she learned the values of compassion, resilience, and leadership from an early age.
Alyssa’s passion for helping others was deeply influenced by her family, especially her grandmother, who instilled in her a sense of hard work, honesty, and kindness. In honor of her grandmother’s memory and battle with breast cancer, Alyssa proudly supports cancer survivors through her work with the LIVESTRONG program at the Y.
Guided by her favorite quote, “Be the light in the dark, be the calm in the storm and be at peace while at war.” (Mike Dolan), Alyssa approaches every challenge and opportunity with grace, strength, and purpose. This perspective shapes her leadership and her deep commitment to fostering wellness and connection.
For Alyssa, honesty is the core YMCA value that resonates most. She believes in living with integrity, being transparent, and building trust in every relationship, both personal and professional.
Since joining the Bangor Region YMCA in January 2020, Alyssa has evolved from an assistant teacher into a community leader, creating new programs and making lasting connections. She loves the inclusive, welcoming environment of the Y, where people from all walks of life come together in a shared space of support and wellness.
When she’s not at work, Alyssa enjoys working out, exploring new places, and spending quality time with her boyfriend. She’s always open to conversation and connection and welcomes curiosity!
