At the Bangor Region YMCA, we understand that divers at different ages and diving levels will have different needs. This is why our Diving Team practices are divided into 3 different levels. With each level advancement comes an increase in practices and competition opportunities.
The coaching staff will place divers in one of the following levels:
BRONZE LEVEL | Beginner Level
Youth in this entry level will receive individual attention and a positive experience in diving. Divers will learn the basics of diving, increase their comfort level on the board and build a strong foundation to advance into competitive diving.
PRE-REQUISITES: Divers must be comfortable putting their head underwater, swimming back to the side of the pool and be deep water ready. Divers must also have excellent listening skills.
SILVER LEVEL | Novice Competition Level
Divers in this level will continue to develop the skills that are taught in the Beginner Level as they prepare for competition. Practices will begin to include dryland training and dives with a higher degree of difficulty.
PRE-REQUISITES: Divers must meet the pre-requisites from Bronze Level, be able to do a forward approach, back press and either 4 dives from 2 categories or 3 dives from 3 categories. Divers must also have excellent listening skills.
GOLD LEVEL | Competition Level
Divers in this level typically have prior competitive diving experience. Divers will begin to focus on the competitive side of the sport including mental preparation, fine tuning skills, and video analysis.
PRE-REQUISITES: Divers must meet the pre-requisites from Bronze and Silver Levels, be able to do a forward approach, back press and have a minimum of 6 dives from all 5 categories. Divers must also have excellent listening skills.
