Programs are offered throughout the school year.  All meetings are currently being held at the Hammond Street Y, unless noted otherwise.

boys will be boys
Grades 6, 7, 8 and HS

A lot of fun and great experiences await YOU! Come join us and build strong relationships, learn about problem solving, communication, decision making and life skills while having a blast in our adventure-based program. We will go on field trips, enjoy the swimming pool and rock climbing, while having community leaders talk with boys about goals and opportunities. One on One mentoring allows the boys to build a trusting relationship that will support and guide them throughout the year. For further information, please contact Jim Bentley at 941-2815.

Jump Start Diversion Program

The JumpStart Program teaches decision-making, goal-setting skills and personal responsibility.  Offered by the Bangor Y through referrals from local police departments and the Department of Corrections to first-time, non-violent juvenile offenders, the JumpStart program is now in its 8th year and has graduated over 500 participants.  For more information, please contact Cathy Hamel at 941-2815.

We Need Mentors!
The JumpStart program needs volunteer mentors for each session. The commitment is one evening a week (usually 5:30-7pm) for 8 weeks. Overseen by a facilitator, you will be paired with a youth during group program time only; sharing experiences, setting goals, solving problems and having fun. No experience is necessary. We also need mentors for our Boys Mentoring Program. We are looking for males in the Penobscot area who want to make a difference in a young boy's life. The impact that you have is AMAZING. If you are interested in providing guidance and support for the youth of the Greater Bangor Community, please contact Cathy Hamel at 941-2815.
