Bangor Y Before/After School Programs
We offer a variety of before or after school programing for kids in the Greater Bangor area. With transportation from many area schools and some in-school programs, there's something for everyone. Each program offers age-appropriate after school activities such as Swim and Gym, Arts & Crafts, Homework Time and Choice Activities that may include music, wellness and games that build friendships, promote creativity and physical activity and allow children to have fun.


Y-Works and Y's Guys Before & After School Care
K - 8th graders
Our Before and After School Program at our Bangor Y Second Street facility serves children in K- 8 th grades from most schools in the greater Bangor area. For more information, contact Erin Hatch at 941-2808.

Y-Works After School Off-Site
Glenburn School
K - 8th graders
After school care available in Glenburn school system.

Winterport School
K - 5th graders
After school care available at the Leroy H. Smith School in Winterport. For information contact Erin Hatch, Y-Works Director, at 941-2808.


Snow Day and Vacation Day Care
Bangor Y childcare remains open for many school closings such as snow days and vacations. Your child will have a fun place for activities such as arts & crafts, games, gym or game room time, cooking, swimming, rock climbing, sports, and more. While you're at work, your child will be cared for by trained Y staff, having fun with friends. Don't forget to pack a lunch and a swimsuit. Separate registration and fee is required. Youth Works
Ages 3rd-12th grade
Our Youth Works Program series involves kids in community-focused clubs when they're young to prepare them to make tough decisions when they're older. These continuous-enrollment programs are specific to the developmental needs of the age groups they target as listed here. Offered throughout the school year.

Brewer Neighborhood Club
Grades 3-5
Youth from Brewer in grades 3rd, 4th & 5th graders participate in arts, community service, team-building and field trip activities two days per week, after school. For info, call Tracy Souza, 941-2808. Second Street Facility, Isaac Farrar Mansion Creative Arts Room. Tentative fall start date, September 2008.

Y-Outreach Youth Center at Capehart
Grades 4-8 (High school youths welcome!)
We serve 4th-8th graders! Residents of Birch Circle, Griffin Park and Old Capehart communities in 4th-8th grade have a local Y facility! Join us for an afternoon snack, team building activities, games, field trips, arts & crafts classes, cooking projects, volunteer opportunities and time in the technology or study room to use computers and get help with homework. Outreach program youth also receive a complimentary Y Membership.
Capehart Schedule:
Grades 4-8, M-F, High School Drop-in component
Swim & climbing gym days will alternate age groups on Fridays. Free to Capehart Area Youth. M-F, 3-5:00pm Davis Rd. Facility. For information call Tracy Souza at 941-2808. Tentative fall start date, September 2008.

K Club
Grade 6 Girls
Meet new friends and experience new things in a positive environment. Meets twice per week for all kinds of fun activities such as swimming, guest speakers, community service projects, field trips, arts & crafts, team building activities, cooking and more. For info, contact Jessica Bishop, 941-2808. K-Club meets at our Second Street Facility, in the Isaac Farrar Mansion Teen Room, Mon & Wed, 2:30-5pm. Tentative fall start date, September 2008.

Opportunity Program for Teens (OPT)opt_girls.jpg
Grade 7-12 Girls
This program is offered after school for teen girls in two age groups. A safe and positive place to develop new skills, discover new opportunities and build a foundation for the future. Activities and topics include adventure, creative expression, personal improvement, life skills, community service, college preparation, job skills, sports and fitness, substance abuse prevention and more! For info, contact Jessica Bishop at 941-2808. OPT 7th & 8th (Grades 7-8) meet on Tues. from 2:30-5 pm. OPT High school (Grades 9-12) meet on Thurs. from 2:30-5 pm. Both programs are held at the Second St. Facility in the Isaac Farrar Mansion Teen Room. Tentative fall start date, September 2008.

Interact Leaders Club
Grades 9-12
Serious Fun! Meet friends and make a difference in your community! This service club is a 9-month program for 9th -12th graders to develop leadership skills in a social setting. Have fun while developing presentation and career skills, challenging yourself, and serving the community through service projects. Bangor Area Breakfast Rotary's support of time, talent, and treasure (including a $1,000 scholarship for one dedicated member) will help reach common goals of service. For info, call Tracy Souza or Jessica Bishop at 941-2808. Y Membership not required. Dues: $5/month. Four hours of volunteer work required and if you do an additional four hours, you will receive a free membership to the Bangor Y. Hammond Street facility upstairs in the Everett Room. This year we are scheduling an end-of-year trip to (tentatively) NEW YORK to celebrate all your hard work.


Boys Mentoring Program
Grades 6, 7, 8 and HS.
A lot of fun and great experiences await YOU! Come join us and build strong relationships, learn about problem solving, communication, decision making and life skills while having a blast in our adventure based program. We will go on filed trips, enjoy the swimming pool and rock climbing, while having community leaders talk with boys about goals and opportunities. One on One mentoring allows the boys to build a trusting relationship that will support and guide them through out the year. Zoey's Room
Grades 4-8
Girls come join us on the Internet where you will learn how to "surf the net" safely through games and challenges presented by Zoey's Room. You can earn points and win prizes, while making friendships across the nation. There are chat rooms that allow you to talk to famous women that have accomplished great things. Bring your friends and join the club, be a girl of the world! For info call Tracy Souza or Jessica Bishop at 941-2808.

Family Fun Nights
A time to build strong families and have fun! All ages are welcome to join us for family swim time, open gym, climbing gym, arts & crafts, game room, refreshments and MORE! Children must be accompanied by an adult. Don't forget to bring your bathing suit, towel, and sneakers. Usually the first Saturday of every month, beginning next fall!


We Need Mentors!
The JumpStart program needs volunteer mentors for each session. The commitment is only Wednesday evenings from 6:30-8pm for 8 weeks. Overseen by a facilitator, you will be paired with a youth during group program time only; sharing experiences, setting goals, solving problems and having fun. No experience is necessary. We also need mentors for our Boys Mentoring Program. We are looking for males in the penobscot area that want to make a difference in a young boy's life. The impact that you have is AMAZING. JumpStart Diversion Program
The JumpStart program teaches decision-making & goal-setting skills and personal responsibility. Offered by the Bangor Y through referrals from local police departments and the Department of Corrections to first-time, non-violent juvenile offenders, the JumpStart program is now in its 7th year and has graduated more than 400 participants. Babysitting Skills Course
Ages 10-16
Boys and girls will learn the important skills of responsible babysitting including accident prevention, discipline, basic first aid, age appropriate activities and supervision. Participants must attend all classes for certification. The next session will begin in September 2008, exact date TBD. Individuals with Bangor Y Family memberships enroll for free, youth/individual memberships $18, non-members enroll for $45. Contact Jessica Bishop for more information at 941-2808.
